Basic Obedience is the control, through training specific commands of your dog.
By the end of either class, your dog shall heel, sit, stay, down and come when called. Additionally, your and your dog will learn about the canine body posture, appropriate interactions with other people and dogs, and how to be a great dog owner.
Basic-O 1 is designed for the family companion.
Basic-O 2 is designed for competition obedience.
Aptitude testing will be done on the last day of the course.
Basic-O 1 & 2 are 7 weeks, meeting for 1 hour once a week.
“On The Town” is our Basic-O class taught on the town - be certain to choose the time of day that works BEST for your dog (afternoon is BUSY), evening is more relaxed and morning is quiet.

Basic-O 1 - Specifically designed for the family companion. This is an intensive 7 week course that you and your dog will attend, complete homework assignments and then test at the end of class 7. The exercises you will complete are: Walking on leash in proximity of other dogs and people with distractions while maintaining control on a loose leash. Heeling on a loose leash while walking without distractions. Sit on command and remain in a sit until given another command. Down on command and remain in the down until released. Come immediately and without hesitation when called and sitting immediately in front of you so you can collect the dog without struggle, chase or restraint. Stay in a position as directed until released. Walk through a gate without struggle or bumping. Load into a vehicle without struggle, sit or down once in the vehicle and remain there until otherwise told to do so. Down and remain in a down while filling a food bowl and walking back to your dog. Your dog will learn not to forge or eat until you have given the command. Basic-O 2 - Specifically designed for those dogs going into competition obedience, therapy dog training, agility training or other advanced training. This is an intense obedience class, and is designed for the dedicated. PRE-REQ. Basic-O 1 or testing in. The goals for this class, in order are: 1. The dog will learn to play before it learns to work - if your dog does not know how to play, you may want to enroll in “Club” or another of our activities to get the basics as this class is ONLY 8 weeks long and if your dog does not understand the concept of play, it must learn it. Play is with the handler. 2. The dog will sit immediately upon command. 3. The dog will hold the long sit for 3 minutes. 4. The dog will down immediately upon command. 5. The dog will hold the long down for 5 minutes. 6. The dog will stand immediately upon command. 7. The dog will finish quickly and with precision. 8. The dog will heel precisely (in a competition heel) and with spirit. 9. The dog will come immediately when called and sit attentively upon command. 10. The dog will heel on the right side upon command. 11. The dog will heel under distractions and through crowds. 12. The dog will remain in a heel and will not investigate another dog or person unless released by the owner. 13. The handler will behave as an owner, taking pride in the precision and companionship of the dog. 14. The handler will learn the pattern of the exercises that will be tested. 15. The handler will do all homework, without regard to amount of time needed to perfect the homework. EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR BASIC-O 2 6’ lead (double ply nylon or leather), Flat collar, training collar, ball and/or another object to play with, a 4’ single ply nylon or cotton lead not to exceed 1/2 inch in width, 20’ lead, small training treats (soft)
